Hi Friend, this is a sample of one of my devotionals for my
This devo will be in book 3, emotional domain book.
Enable me, Lord, to Shift—from feeling it’s impossible to change my emotions
to the truth, I can.
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
(Philippians 4:13 NASB)
Many women live day by day on a roller coaster with their emotions. They allow them to dictate and set their gauge to live by. Then they get stuck in a reactive ride that doesn’t produce the life they want.
And over ten years of coaching women I have heard these phrases.
I am sad.
I am a failure.
I cannot do that.
I am not good enough.
I am an anxious person just like…
I am bitter just like…
I am frustrated.
I am jealous.
I am indecisive.
I am powerless.
I am lonely.
It’s the way we all are in my family, critical and pessimistic.
I am a victim.
I don’t like myself.
Confusion is my life.
Instead of these robbers of life, I lay out healthy emotional options for the woman to select what she might want instead of these emotional pitfalls. Consider what life would be like if you had, passion, mission, vision, satisfaction, joy, adventure, success, clarity, balance, focus, fun, peace, action, calmness, friendships, and more? Madeline wanted joy. She was so tired of the sadness in her life. Yes, she had experienced tremendous loss in her life. But, she longed for joy. Simple joy. So she went to work on herself. Each day she spoke aloud, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” whenever sadness dogged her at home. Especially during the holidays when she longed for her husband and children to be present. He had chosen to leave her for her best friend less than a year ago. The pain was raw. She had to work to learn to live again. Focus. Speak Truth. She said, “I can do this. I can learn. I can change. I can.”
It takes work to unlearn the emotions that trip us up. They cling to us like sticky notes. So we must look at what hangs off our body frame. What is your negative emotional tag along? We must realize, like Madeline, we want to replace that with what the Lord says He wants for us. He is our pivot. We must run to Him and through Him so I can do all things through Him who strengthens me, in order to change.
- What emotion or verbal phrase trips you up?
- What do you want instead?
- How can you starve out the emotion you hate?
Enable me, Lord, to shift the feelings of impossible to change to the truth, I can do all things through You. Amen.
